INTRODUCTION

“Sit Spot” is a simple yet powerful practice from Forest Bathing that invites you to find a quiet spot in nature, sit, observe, and immerse yourself fully in the environment around you. This practice encourages you to become more mindful, to connect with nature, to develop a deeper awareness of yourself and others, and most importantly to cultivate a deeper understanding of the relationship you have with the natural world.

HOW TO DO THIS ACTIVITY

1

Find a spot in nature that resonates with you. It could be a quiet corner of your garden, a nearby park, a forest clearing, or beside a gentle stream.

2

Once you’ve found your spot, take a few moments to settle in. Lay or sit down on a blanket/mat to create a comfortable area and allow your body to adjust to the surroundings.

3

Take a few deep breaths, inhaling the fresh air and exhaling any tension or stress. Begin to engage your senses. Notice the colours, shapes, and textures around you. Listen to the sounds of nature. Feel the earth beneath you and the air against your skin. Allow yourself to become fully present in this moment.

4

Spend at least 20-30 minutes simply observing the world around you. As you sit, reflect on your relationship with nature. How does it make you feel?

5

When you feel ready, take out your journal and write or draw your thoughts, observations and reflections. You may choose to sketch the landscape, jot down any interesting observations, or simply express how you feel in this moment.

6

Before you leave your sit spot, take a moment to express gratitude for the experience. Thank the natural world for its beauty, wisdom, and nourishment. Carry this sense of connection and appreciation with you as you return to your daily life.
