HOW TO DO THIS ACTIVITY

1

GATHER INSPIRATION

Begin by thinking of the trees you’ve seen — tall and sturdy oaks, willowy birches, or evergreens covered in pinecones. If you have pictures or can view trees through your window, even better!

2

WARM-UP DOODLES

Start with simple lines, swirls, and shapes that remind you of tree textures — think wavy lines for bark, looping shapes for leaves, or spiky outlines for pine needles.

3

CREATE YOUR TREES
On your paper, draw the trunk and branches. There’s no right or wrong way to do this! Let your pencil move freely — your tree can be realistic or fantastical. Try different shapes for branches and experiment with patterns.

4

ADD PATTERNS & DETAILS

Use your crayons or coloured pencils to fill your tree with fun patterns. Try zigzags, spirals, dots, or crosshatches. Imagine how the wind might blow through the branches or how the snow rests on boughs.

5

PLAY WITH COLOUR

Add touches of green, brown, or even unexpected colours like purple or gold. Use shades that feel calming or joyful to you.

6

REFLECT
Pause to admire your creation. How did it feel to focus on your tree doodle? Did it remind you of a favourite place or moment outdoors? This quiet reflection helps deepen your connection with nature.

TIPS FOR EXTRA FUN

  • Try drawing the same tree in different seasons — bare in winter, blooming in spring, leafy in summer, and golden in autumn.

  • Experiment with tree doodles while listening to nature sounds or gentle music to enhance the calming effect.

  • Share your doodles with a friend or family member and encourage them to join in!

Remember, there are no mistakes in Tree Doodling — only joyful creativity and a chance to feel a little closer to nature!
