INTRODUCTION
As the days grow cooler and the trees begin to change, autumn offers us a vibrant display of colours. This exercise is designed to help you connect with the beauty of this colourful season through a simple creative practice. Collecting leaves of various colours and exploring their vibrant hues will help only boost your wellbeing but also deepen your appreciation for nature’s seasonal rhythms.
HOW TO DO THIS ACTIVITY
1
GO ON A LEAF HUNT
Take a short walk outside, whether in a park, a garden, or along a nearby street. As you stroll, look for fallen leaves of different colours — reds, yellows, oranges, greens, and browns. Pick up a few that catch your eye and place them gently in your pocket or bag.
2
OBSERVE YOUR LEAVES
Once back inside or in a comfortable outdoor spot, lay out your leaves. Take a moment to really notice them: look at the textures, the shapes, and the subtle variations in colour. How many shades can you see within each leaf?
3
CREATE A COLOUR PALETTE
With your notebook and colouring materials, start drawing small swatches of the colours you see in each leaf. Try to match the exact shade of green, yellow, or red by blending colours if needed. If you’re using a glue stick, you can also attach one or two of your favourite leaves to the page as part of your palette.
4
REFLECT AND CONNECT
As you work, reflect on how these colours make you feel. Do certain colours feel warm, calm, or energising? Write a few words or phrases in your notebook that describe the mood of the season or how the colours remind you of this time of year.
